Church Day in Cambodia – Day 4

We got up this morning at 5am, and got everyone ready to head to church by 7:30am. That's when they begin church here! They have an assembly with announcements and several songs and prayer, and then the Sunday School classes meet for an hour. After that is the worship service, which includes more singing, praying, and preaching. It is over around 11am. We were so thankful that Pastor Chheng had a bright young man named Daniel sit behind us to interpret for us so we could understand the sermon. The rest of the day was truly restful, save our family's walk to Kinko's. I needed to make some copies for ESL class tomorrow, and the copier at the church was not working. But Chheng said that it was no problem. "We have copy place just down the road! There is a sign and copier out front…you won't miss!" Okay, how hard could that be? Well, it wasn't quite as easy as he made it out to be, and thankfully, after we walked WAY past it, we ended up in front of his relative's house, whom he was at that moment visiting, and he laughed and told us that we had missed it…by a long shot. So we walked back and found the place. The sign was actually in Khmer, with the English words so old and worn away that they looked erased and were much smaller than the other words on the sign. Funny to us! The shop was open at the front with dirt floor and a glass counter. The copier was behind and off to the side of the counter. There were miscellaneous items for sale, including eggs and lots of different types of pens. The entire family and a relative were sitting there at the front of the shop, which was also the front of their house. We could look past the copier into the house. We got our copies and headed back; it was hot but good exercise!
